As the name implies Lake Macquarie City Council is mostly located around Australia’s largest coastal salt water lagoon situated to the west of the City of Newcastle. John Hunter is a major teaching hospital and is the largest hospital north of the Sydney. It receives patients from all over northern NSW and provides the full range of services one would expect to find in a large teaching facility. There are also five private hospitals and a number of clinics in the area. There are also a large number of Specialists to support the hospitals and a large number of GP clinics in the area.
