The Southern Inland region is located in the south east of NSW, encompassing 38,000 square kilometres of NSW land area. It is uniquely positioned between the two biggest Australian population centres of Sydney and Melbourne, and surrounds the Australian Capital Territory. The region is comprised of seven local government areas being Wingecarribee, Goulburn Mulwaree, Yass Valley, Upper Lachlan, Hilltops, Queanbeyan- Palerang and Snowy Monaro with a combined population of almost 198,000 residents. The majority of population is concentrated within the larger centres of Queanbeyan, Bowral-Moss Vale area and Goulburn together with the larger towns including Yass and Cooma with the remainder dispersed throughout the smaller centres..
The major employment sectors and industries are in the areas of Tourism, Health care and social assistance, Manufacturing, Education, Primary Industry, Information Technology, Transport, Construction and Public Administration.
The Southern Inland has the busiest freight corridor in Australia. The region is strategically and geographically well placed to support the growth of the freight and logistics sector. The region has around 5,000 MW of installed large-scale renewable energy generation capacity.
The plan for the future is to be a regional leader promoting advanced liveability for the whole region which should be easy to achieve with access to markets, a skilled workforce, abundant renewable energy, a clean and green environment and an entrepreneurial spirit.
