The Orana region stretches across the Central West and Western region of New South Wales, hugging the Queensland border for a large part of the State. The Orana, meaning ‘Welcome’ in Wiradjuri, is the largest and most diverse region in the State, covering 25% of the land area of NSW. It services a population of over 120,000 people with the Gross Regional Product being almost $7 billion.
The region encompasses thirteen Local Government areas ranging from major regional centres such as Dubbo, Mudgee and Cobar as well as the towns of Bourke, Brewarrina, Coonamble, Coonabarabran, Gilgandra, Narromine, Nyngan, Walgett and Warren The region is traversed by a number of river systems including the Darling and the Macquarie.
Access to employment is varied, with the greatest number of people employed in the field of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing followed by Health Care and Social Assistance, Retail, Education and Training, Public Administration and Safety, Construction, Accommodation and Mining.
With short commute times and no traffic congestion, life is much easier. In most centres, it’s a short five minute drive to work, where within a small to medium sized workplace, there’s an opportunity to make a difference and gain great job satisfaction and then another 5 minute commute to get home. This means much more time to be involved in the community by joining a sporting club or society and more time for all the leisure activities that make life such a pleasurable experience. Couple this information with the knowledge that in some towns a house could be purchased for around $200,000 or very reasonable rental prices, there seems to be every reason to make the move to this relaxed way of life.
