Situated less than 70 kilometres north of Sydney lies the Central Coast where beautiful beaches, sparkling oceans, lakes and rivers with a backdrop of the mountains are all found. The area incorporates beach-side suburbs such as Avoca and Bateau Bay, lakeside areas like Toukley and The Entrance and a large hinterland where horse studs, nut groves and citrus orchards abound. Localities in this area include Kulnura and Yarramalong. The administrative centres are Gosford and Wyong.
Large numbers of people who live in the southern part of the region commute to work in Sydney either by car or the Central Coast Rail line, and are able to enjoy the pleasant lifestyle away from the hustle and bustle of Sydney.
The area is well served by schools, 3 TAFE campuses and a campus of the University of Newcastle. There are 2 large public hospitals and at least 3 private facilities and 21 aged care providers.
