About Tamworth

Tamworth sits in a large council area (three times larger than the Sydney basin) and is the administrative centre for the Tamworth Regional Council.  Some of the other towns and villages in the local government area are Manilla, Kootimgal, Barraba and Moonbi. Other villages include Nundle, Attunga, Loomberah and Bendemeer.

Known throughout the world as the Country Music Capital, the annual festival, held in January, is the largest music festival in the southern hemisphere and one of the top 10 in the world attracting 55,000 visitors to over 4,000 shows across 120 different venues. Many of the iconic attractions revolve around music with the giant Golden Guitar being well known.  The state of the art Tamworth Equine & Livestock Events Centre is now known throughout the horse world and is home to most major horse related events in Australia contributing $8 billion to the local economy.

A range of pre-school options are available to Tamworth residents. Parents are spoilt for choice and are able to choose from 24 public, Catholic, Christian and private primary and 9 secondary schools. Tertiary options are the TAFE New England Tamworth campus, the Tamworth Centre of the University of New England and the University of Newcastle together with the Tamworth Community College.

Tamworth has a base hospital and is the major facility for the northern inland health sector of NSW. It has 288 beds and offers most surgical options as well as medical and all other related services available at a major health facility in the State.   There is also a 53 bed private facility with all the attendant specialists.   There are choices when it comes to obtaining any medical treatment from surgery to GPs to many allied health practitioners.  Nursing home options abound throughout the area.
