About Shellharbour

This area is located to the south of Wollongong and Shellharbour Civic Centre is the administrative home of the area.  Among the suburbs in the Local Government area are Albion Park, Barrack Heights, Lake Illawarra, Macquarie Pass, Oak Flats and Warilla.

There is a lot to do in this busy area with some of the events being the Festival of Sport in March, the Shellharbour Ocean Swim in April, Wings over Illawarra in May, the Multicultural Festival in June and the RedAss Downhill State Round on the long weekend in October.

The opportunities to play sport in this area are unparalleled.  Some of the sports which can be played are AFL, basketball, BMX, cricket, cycling, equestrian, futsal, hockey, little athletics, netball, oztag rugby league, rugby union, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis and touch football. 

Access to education in Shellharbour is easy with playgroups, pre-school, long day care centres as well as family day care and after school centres.  The Shellharbour Council area has fourteen public, four Catholic, one special needs and three private primary schools.  At high school level there are four public, two Catholic, one special needs and three private high schools. Higher Education is available through the Shellharbour campus of the Illawarra Institute of TAFE.  

There are options for those requiring health options in this area.  There is an 80 bed public hospital comprising an emergency department, surgical and medical wards, pathology, pharmacy and much more.  There is also a 60 bed private hospital with 47 credentialed specialists with specialities including rehabilitation options.  Naturally there are many allied health professionals in the area who support the excellent facilities.
