About Richmond Valley Shire

Situated in the far north of New South Wales, the town of Casino is the largest centre and administrative centre of the Richmond Valley Shire. Running from the mountains to the sea, there are many towns and villages in the Shire some of them being Evans Head, Coraki, Woodbury and Broadwater.

Casino is well known as the Beef Capital of NSW and celebrates this in Casino Beef Week each May. Some of the other events which occur throughout the year include the Primex Field Days held in June, the week long Evans Head Fishing Classic in July, the Woodburn Riverside Festival in October and the Craig Shepherd Memorial Ski Race in Coraki each March.

With an ideal climate for sporting pursuits, there are many sports played in the Shire. These include archery, baseball, hockey, rugby league, rugby union, soccer, swimming and tennis. The Casino Indoor Sports Stadium has an extensive program which includes indoor basketball, netball, volleyball, futsal and miniball. Lifesaving is available at Evans Head.

Residents have much to choose from in education. There are many childcare centres and pre-schools. In Casino there are two public and one Catholic primary schools and one public, one Catholic and one Christian high school. In both Woodburn and Coraki there is one public and one Catholic primary school. There is a K-12 private school in Evans Head and primary schools in Ellangowan Leeville, Rappville, Stratheden and Broadwater. There is a campus of Far North Coast TAFE in Casino.

There are GP clinics in Casino, Coraki and Evans Head.There are numerous allied health professionals based throughout the Shire. In both Casino and Coraki there is a hospital and a Community Health Centre. There is also a Community Health Centre in Evans Head.
