About Port Stephens

Just to the north of Newcastle lies the picturesque area of Port Stephens centred on the administrative centre of Nelson Bay.  All through this beautiful area, there are pretty towns and villages including Anna Bay, Fingal Bay, Salamander Bay, Shoal Bay, Soldiers Point, Tanilba Bay and Lemon Tree Passage.

There are many events and festivals some of which are the Club Marine Trailer Boat Fishing Tournament in March, Sail Port Stephens, an annual yachting regatta in April, the Blue Water Country and Blues Festival in June, Clans on the Coast – Celtic Festival in September, Karuah Oyster and Timber Festival in October and Tastes at the Bay in November.

There are a huge range of sporting facilities in the area. Some of the sports which can be played are AFL, athletics, baseball, bocce, cricket, croquet, cycling, hockey, life saving, Little Athletics, netball, Oztag, rugby league, rugby union, sailing, skateboarding, soccer, swimming, tennis and touch football.

In the Port Stephens area there are numerous pre-school, family and long day care and out of hours facilities.  At the primary level there are eighteen public, two Catholic and one private primary schools.  At the high school level there are three public and two Christian  schools.  There is a campus of Hunter Institute of TAFE at Tomaree.

Those looking for health solutions will find the Nelson Bay District Hospital and the Tomaree Community Hospital.  There are many GP clinics together with allied health professions such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists, podiatrists, psychologists, speech therapists, dieticians etc. Residents will be spoilt for choice at the range of aged care options in the area.
