Narrabri is the main centre in the heart of a rich agricultural shire encompassing the towns and villages of Wee Waa, Boggabri, Bellata, Gwabegar, Baan Baa and Edgeroi situated in the north west of the State.
There is plenty to do in the Narrabri Shire. Mount Kaputar National Park is home to the Australian Telescope Compact Array administered by CSIRO and the Pillga Forest is the largest remnant temperate forest in eastern Australia. The Namoi Carp Muster is in March, the Boggabri Drovers Campfire is in April, the Eula Creek Antique and Machinery Day is in August and the Cotton Capital Country Music Festival is on in October,
In 2001, Narrabri was named Australia’s sportiest Shire based on the number of people who come from the town and district. Over 110 representatives of 44 sports either came from or commenced their careers in Narrabri. Therefore it is no surprise that sporting facilities are in plentiful supply. There are fields dedicated to the games of rugby league, cricket, touch football, softball, baseball, rugby union and more. A new $6.5 million aquatic centre will cater for swimmers all year round.
From pre-school to high school, this Shire has plenty to offer. In Narrabri, Wee Waa and Boggabri there are a number of pre-school and day care services In the primary sector there are two public and one Catholic schools in Narrabri, one public and one Catholic in Boggabri and in Wee Waa there is one public, one Catholic and one Christian primary school. There are also high schools in Narrabri and Wee Waa. The towns of Bellata, Gwabegar, Maules Creek and Pilliga also have a primary school. At the tertiary level this is a Northern Inland Community College and a campus of TAFE New England.
Narrabri, Wee Waa and Boggabri all have a hospital. Narrabri has a number of GP medical centres and pharmacies, dentists, optometrist, massage therapist, chiropractors and physiotherapy services. There is a well serviced nursing home in Narrabri.
