This quite diverse area is on the mid north coast of NSW. The administrative centre is Macksville with the beach side towns of Nambucca Heads, Scotts Head and Valla Beach and the hinterland villages of Valla, Bowraville and Taylors Arm to name a few!
Among the many events in the region are the Volkswagen Spectacular at Valla Beach in early August, the Rusty Iron Rally in Macksville in September, Hot Rods in September and ProAg which is held in early November.
The obvious recreation in this area are the many beaches and waterways and the wonderful experiences they provide – swimming, lifesaving, boating and fishing to name a few. Other sports include athletics, bowls, golf, horse racing, rugby league, cricket and touch football
There are many schools in the Shire including a Catholic primary school, a Central School (K-12) and Steiner School in Bowraville, and two public primary schools, one Christian (K-12) and one high school in Nambucca Heads. In Macksville there is one public, one Catholic and one Christian primary school together with a high school. There are public primary schools in Crystal Creek, Eungai, Taylors Arm and Scotts Head. There is a campus of North Coast TAFE in Macksville and Nambucca Valley Community College in Nambucca.
The area is well served by Macksville Hospital, GPs in the larger centres and access to allied health professionals across the Shire. There are nursing homes in both Nambucca and Macksville and a CommunityHealth Centre in Macksville.
