About Maitland

Maitland is one of the oldest regional centres in Australia and is situated just north of Newcastle. Maitland is the administrative centre of the City Council and includes many towns and villages some of which are Rutherford, Lochinvar, Thornton, Metford, Tenambit, Bolwarra and Aberglasslyn.

There are many events on in the region every year including the Maitland Taste Festival in March, Hunter Valley Steamfest in April, Aroma Coffee and Chocolate Festival in August, the Riverlights Multicultural Festival in October and the Bitter and Twisted Boutique Beer Festival in November.

The region has many sporting facilities and a number of sports can be played including AFL, baseball, bowls, cricket, cycling, hockey, netball, rugby league, rugby union, skateboarding, swimming, soccer and tennis.

There are numerous pre-school and child care centres in the region. There is a huge variety of schooling options available in both the public, Catholic and private sectors.

Being such a large city there are dozens of GPs, dentists and allied health professionals. Maitland Hospital services a large area of the Hunter Valley and provides a comprehensive range of services including 24 hour emergency, medical, surgical, maternity and child services etc. There is also a private hospital providing a full range of surgical and medical services. The local Community Health Centre offers a range of community health services. There are many aged care facilities in the area with all options available.
