The major townships of the Lockhart Shire are Lockhart and The Rock with the smaller villages of Yerong Creek, Pleasant Hills and Milbrulong. The Shire is well situated between Wagga Wagga and Albury.
Among the many events in the area are The Rock Triathlon in February, the Vintage Verandah Fest in March and the Spirit of the Land Festival in October which draws over 6000 people annually and The Rock BnS Ball is on in November.
Every sport possible is on offer in the area. Amongst the many sports are football, tennis, cricket, squash, netball, cycling, mountain biking, bowling, athletics, swimming and golf. One of the great landmarks is Galore Hill where walking, rock climbing and horse riding are some of the activities available.
There is a pre school and a Central School (K-12) in The Rock. There is a pre school a Catholic primary school and a Central Schools (K-12) in Lockhart and there are also primary schools in Pleasant Hills and Yerong Creek.
Lockhart Hospital provides a range of emergency, acute and aged care services and community health include physiotherapy and other services. There are GP practices and aged care facilities in both The Rock and Lockhart.
