Lismore is situated on the far north coast and is a major commercial and administrative city. Other towns and villages are Nimbin, Caniaba, Bexhill, Clunes, The Channon and Wyrallah.

Lismore has six public, two Catholic and three private primary schools and three public, three Catholic and two private high schools. There is a Central School (K-12) in Nimbin and primary schools at Bexhill, Blakebrook, Coffee Camp, Caniaba, Clunes, Corndale, Dunoon, Eltham, Goolmangar, Jiggi, Larnbrook, Modanville, Rosebank, The Channon, Tregeagle, Tuntable and Whian Whian. Lismore boasts a campus of North Coast TAFE and is the home of Southern Cross University.
For those needing medical attention, there is much to choose from. There are many GP medical centres and specialists in the city. There are many allied health professionals providing podiatry, dietetics, speech pathology, occupational therapy, psychology and physiotherapy. The Lismore Base Hospital has over 200 beds and is a major emergency, trauma and elective surgical hospital. It also has a coronary care unit and is home to the North Coast Cancer Institute. St Vincents is a private hospital in Lismore. There is a Community Health and a Mental Health facility in Lismore as well as a large number of assisted living facilities and nursing homes.
