About Junee

The town of Junee is in the eastern Riverina and at the heart of the Shire which also includes the villages of Bethungra, Wantabadgery and Old Junee. Agriculture is at the heart of the prosperity of the Shire, producing canola, wheat, lasts, barley, wool and fat lambs. There are also boutique vineyards olive groves and deer farms.

Junee started life in the 1870’s as an important hub for the railway running between Sydney and Melbourne. Even though its importance as a railhead has diminished over the years, the beautiful architecture of the railway station and its surrounds dominate the centre of town and remain a strong tourist attraction. There are also many other beautiful buildings which make a marvellous contribution to the “look” of the town.

For those with recreation in mind, they are spoilt for choice in Junee. Sports include basketball, bowls, cricket golf, netball, rugby league, rugby union, soccer and tennis There is also a pony club, harness racing club and motorsports. There is also an aquatic centre and skate park.

Under fives are well catered for in Junee. There is a Pre-school, an early learning centre and a long day care centre. Additionally there are two public and one Catholic primary schools and Junee High School offers education for Years 7 to 12. There are also primary schools in Illabo and Eurongilly.

Junee is well serviced for medical care via a GP and allied health service at Junee Medical and Dental Care. The Junee District Hospital has the full range of medical services available and aged care is provided through several levels of accommodation.
