About Central Coast

The Central Coast takes in the area immediately to the north of Sydney taking in beachside towns such as Terrigal and Avoca Beach. The Entrance is a resort area offering a range of recreation where the saltwater wetland of Tuggerah Lake meets the sea. The administrative hub of the Local Government area is in Gosford.

Among the many events in the area are the Girrakool Festival in March, the Harvest Festival in June, Carnevale in August, Chromefest in October and the Central Coast Christmas Fair in December.

Sporting facilities abound in the area and residents can play AFL, athletics, baseball, basketball, BMX, cricket, croquet, cycling, gridiron, hockey, Little Athletics, netball, Oztag, rugby league, rugby union, sailing, skateboarding,softball, soccer, swimming, tennis and touch football.   The long area coastline offers many beaches where surfing and other beach activities abound.

There are dozens of playgroups, pre-schools, long day care centres as well as family day care and after school centres. The Central Coast has over fifty public, nine Catholic, four special and six private primary schools,   There are seventeen public, three special and six private high schools and three Catholic Colleges. At the tertiary level there are three campuses of Central Coast Institute of TAFE at Gosford, Ourimbah and Wyong together with three Community Colleges providing courses for adult learning.

There are two public hospitals providing over 500 beds between them. There are also a number of private hospitals offering a full range of services.   There are many professionals to cover the services including surgeons, radiologists, GPs and allied health professionals.
