By far the largest employment sector in the region is agriculture, forestry and fishing. This is followed by health care and social assistance, retail trade, education and training and construction.
Forbes is the largest centre and administrative hub of the Shire which is located on the Lachlan River in the central west of NSW. There are many other towns and villages including Bedgerebong, Bundarrah, Corradgery, Eugowra, Ooma North and Paytens Bridge.
Among the many things do in the Forbes Shire why not book in for the Kalari Lachlan River Arts Festival a biennial festival held in September or Grazing Down the Lachlan, an amazing weekend also held in September or the Vanfest Music and Arts Festival held every December.
Those with a love of sport are well served in Forbes. Facilities are available for golf, basketball, cricket, hockey, rugby league, rugby union, soccer, squash, tennis, lawn bowls, netball, fishing, polo, skateboarding. swimming and touch football. If bushwalking is your thing, there are numerous walks in all the surrounding National Parks.
Education is well covered with playgroups, pre-schools and long day care centre. Forbes has two public and one Catholic primary school, one public high school and a Catholic college. There are primary schools in Bedgerabong, Corinella and Eugowra and there is a campus of the Western Institute of TAFE.
There are a number of GP medical centres in Forbes. Allied health services include physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. A new hospital was recently completed in Forbes, providing the community with a facility which boasts 24 hour emergency department, obstetric services etc. A Community Health Centre provides a full range of services and there are several retirement villages and nursing homes.
