Dungog is the largest town and administrative centre of a Shire in the heart of the Hunter Valley. Among the other towns and villages are Clarence Town, Vacy, Gresford and Paterson.
The Shire is steeped in history and the towns of Gresford, Paterson and Dungog are great places to explore what life was like a century ago. Education in the Shire are as follows: in Dungog there are several pre-schools, one public and one Catholic primary school and a high school. There are public primary schools in Paterson, Martins Creek, Vacy, Gresford, Clarence Town and Glen William. Students from Years 10 – 12 may opt to attend Tocal Agricultural College if they are interested in an a career in agriculture or wish to pursue a agricultural based university degree.
Dungog Hospital provides the full range of services as well as post surgical postnatal care and a range of outpatient and community health services including dietetics, speech and occupational therapy. There is also a GP clinic, a physiotherapist and a pharmacy.
