Federation Council is made up of a number of towns and communities including the administrative centres of Corowa, Urana, Howlong and Mulwala and the villages of Oaklands, Balldale, Boree Creek, Buraja-Lowesdale, Coreen, Daysdale, Morundah, Rand, Rennie and Savernake. It is situated in the Riverina area of southern New South Wales on the Victorian border. In 1893 a People’s Convention was held in Corowa when support for a democratic Australia was born and gave it the name of “Birthplace of Federation.
Among the many things to do in this vibrant area is the Corowa Tractor Pull in March, the Australian Billy Cart Championships in Corowa every Easter, the Corowa Car Show in September, the Corowa Festival of Dance in October and the Three Rivers Orchid Show in November.
There are many sporting facilities in the region including football fields, bowling greens, cricket pitches, netball and tennis courts, golf courses, swimming pools, walking paths and cycling trail. Mulwala boasts the largest licensed water ski club in the world and there are many opportunities based around the the beautiful Murray River and Lake Mulwala.
Education is well covered with pre-schools and day care centres. Corowa has two public and one Catholic primary school together with a high school. Urana has one public and one Catholic primary school and there are also primary schools in Howlong, Mulwala, Oaklands, Boree Creek, Rand, Lowesdale, and Savernake. There is a campus of Riverina TAFE in Corowa
The region has hospitals at Urana and Corowa hospital has a 24 hour emergency service. There are medical practitioners at Corowa, Urana and Howlong. Allied health services include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dietetics and optometry. The whole area is well serviced when it comes to retirement villages, nursing homes, hostels etc.
