It is situated in the Riverina area of southern New South Wales on the Victorian border. Urana has one public and one Catholic primary school and there are also primary schools in Howlong, Mulwala, Oaklands, Boree Creek, Rand, Lowesdale, and Savernake. The region has hospitals at Urana and Corowa hospital has a 24 hour emergency service. There are medical practitioners at Corowa, Urana and Howlong. Allied health services include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dietetics and optometry. The whole area is well serviced when it comes to retirement villages, nursing homes, hostels etc.
