Picturesque Byron Bay is the eastern most town on the east coast of Australia and is the administrative centre of the Byron Shire. Other towns and villages are Bungalow, Ocean Shores, Mullumbimby, Myocum, Eureka, Possum Creek and Billignudgel.

There are two public and three private high schools. At the tertiary level, there are several choices including SAE institute and the Byron Community College.
For those needing medical attention there are a plethora of medical centres in the area. Allied health specialists such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists, podiatrists, dieticians, psychologists are all well catered for in the region. The Byron Central Hospital provides a wide range of acute and sub acute services including a 24 hour emergency and obstetrics department.
