About Bathurst Regional Council

The historic city of Bathurst is the largest centre in the Bathurst Regional Council.  It is the oldest inland settlement in Australia.  There are numerous other towns and villages which include Kelso, Eglinton, Raglan, Perthville, Trunkey Creek, Sofala and Hill End.

There are dozens of events in Bathurst every year including the Highlands Gathering held in March, the Autumn Colours Program held during April and May.  The Winter Winery Wander in June will delight all comers and the Bathurst Winter Festival is held in July. Thousands of visitors from all over Australia flock to Bathurst for the iconic event known as the Bathurst 1000 held every October on Mount Panorama.  Also in October is the well established Bathurst Spring Spectacular.    

For those wanting to play sport in Bathurst will find access to facilities for AFL, athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, croquet, cycling, hockey, netball, rugby league, rugby union, skateboarding, soccer, swimming, tennis, touch football and volleyball.

Bathurst has a reputation of providing outstanding educational opportunities.  All sectors are well covered with 17  pre-schools and early childhood centres.  In Bathurst there are nine public and six private primary schools.  Additionally there are two public, two Catholic and two private high schools. There are also public schools in Hill End, Trunkey Creek, Meadow Flat, Rockley, Wattle Flat, Rockley and Sofala. There are campuses of both the Charles Sturt University and Western Institute of TAFE.

Bathurst offers a wide variety of services at the Base Hospital which include emergency, acute care, surgery, maternity  etc.  There is also a private hospital which provides a full range of surgical and medical services.  With two large hospitals, naturally there are numerous specialists, GP medical centres and the full range of allied health services to maintain care for both in patient requirements and the public.  There are numerous aged care facilities in the region.
